#FARMTOBOOCH: Maui Gold Pineapple

We proudly brew our kombucha using locally sourced, island grown ingredients ,and continuously work to support local farms and our island community. One of the many reasons for teaming up with Maui Gold Pineapple who provide us with their sweet + ultra delicious Maui grown pineapple for our RESTORE flavor.

Located only 10 miles from our brewing facility in the small plantation town of Hali'imaile, the farm has been cultivating their pineapple variety for over 25 years. Maui Gold Pineapple was created by former Maui Pineapple Company employees who were committed to saving the 100 year tradition of pineapple on Maui.

Maui provides the perfect growing conditions for the fruit: warm sunny days, cool nights, fresh water and rich volcanic soil on the slopes of Haleakala at an elevation of 1,100 feet.

Although it takes a full 18 months to grow a pineapple, the fruit is perfectly ripe in the field for only 2-3 days. Once they're picked off the plant, they will not ripen further.

You can't always rely on a pineapple's color as an indicator of ripeness—a pineapple can be ripe and ready to eat on the inside even with a green shell color. That's why the fruit in each field is continuously tested to make sure the pineapples are picked at the peak of ripeness. On harvest day, each fruit is hand-picked with the experienced eye of the farmers.

What makes Maui Gold pineapple so good, you ask? The rich and extra sweet flavor as well as its low acidity — characteristics developed over years by traditional horticulturalists who crossed hundreds of natural pineapple varieties in the search for the best tasting fruit.

Packed with immune-boosting nutrients, pineapple is a super source of Vitamin C, high in dietary fiber, thiamin, Vitamin B-6, Antioxidants and Manganese. We definitely don't need more reasons to simply love this ultra healhty and refreshing fruit!
